BSOD Properties 1.0

Are you tired of the same old blue screen of death? Well say good-bye blue screen and hello to green screen, or purple screen, or black screen of death! Just download this simple little utility called BSOD Properties and select your favorite color. This program makes use of some old Windows 3.1 options in the system.ini file that have been long forgotten, but are still present in Windows 95, 98, and ME. Unfortunately this program has no effect on Windows NT 3.x, 4, 2000, or XP.

DOS SCURK Fix

This is an update fix to the executable for Sim City Urban Renewal Kit for Sim City 2000. I have had Sim City 2000 for DOS on my computer forever but I have not needed to use SCURK since the days of my Pentium 200. I was surprised an annoyed the other day when I discovered that it didn't want to run on my computer. First it said I didn't have enough memory - it reported that I had a negative amount of RAM! I got around that with a special command line parameter but then it refused to recognize the VESA support for my Voodoo 5 (VESA 3 compatible) card. I figured that was a glitch in the detection code so I had at it with a hex editor, found, and squashed the problem. This version should now recognize all of the same VESA compatible cards (only tested on my computer) as SC2000. And as a bonus I permanently disabled the faulty memory check. First you must already have Sim City Urban Renewal Kit / Sim City 2000 for DOS installed on your hard drive. This executable will do nothing without that. Download the file scurkfix.zip, and extract the file munge.exe in to your installation folder over the old one. I do not guarantee this will work or help anyone else but it did get the program running on my computer again.

NMAP

I was digging through my old files and came across this program I wrote a long time ago. This is NMAP a level editor for Wolf 3D. Using an updated tile set it can also work with Spear of Destiny. I recall being upset with this program because my graphics drawing routines ran annoyingly slow on my 286 which I was using at the time. Funny it seems quite zippy on an Athlon 950. To use this program you need either the shareware or registered DOS version of Wolf3d, or Spear of Destiny. You may notice that I used the included sample level file as a basis for Map 03 of my MarsWar doom wad. Don't forget the first thing you will need to do is edit the nmap.cfg file for your version of Wolf3d. As I recall the registered version of Wolf3D has file extensions of .WL6. I think versions later than 1.1 of Wolf3D will work with NMAP, when using those the first line of the config file should still be "1". For more information read the NMAP documentation. The only things I have changed are my contact information and I added the Spear of Destiny tile set in a sub folder.

Spear of Bullshit 1.0

This is an old hackup of the shareware Spear of Destiny Demo I made a long time ago that for some reason I named "Spear of Bullshit". I used my NMAP map editor to make this as well as several home-made programs (that were never finished) to insert new graphics. If you have played through my Marswar Doom levels some of these levels may seem vaugly familiar. I used a number of these SOB levels as a basis for some of the Doom levels. Fun things to watch for in Spear of BS: Pepsi Machines! A hand full of other new wall texturers. A new treasure item. "New" music. (Mostly ripped from Comander Keen) New boss guys: Space Ball Hitler, an evil walking Macintosh, and BJ himself! Command line parameter to enable cheats: DEBUGMODE Key combination to activate cheats: LEFTSHIFT-ALT-BACKSPACE Invincibility mode: TAB-G Extra items: TAB-I Keys and items: M-L-I Walk through walls: TAB-N Please ignore the anti-Apple crap being spewed by the evil walking Mac / Banana Jr.. This was made back before anybody had to use Windoze.

Win95 Comctl fix 5.00.0910.1306

Windows 95 may not run Microsoft's latest application software, but many people including myself still use it. A while back I noticed my system resources would keep dropping after opening and closing lots of file folders and I would eventually have to reboot because of it. I tracked it down to the common control library version 5.80 (comctl32.dll) that some program had installed. I quickly switched back to version 4.72 and all was well again. Curious I tested this on numerous other Windows 95 systems and discovered the exact same thing. To reproduce this behavior on an affected system, just select a bunch of file folders somewhere and open them all at once. Close them (using ALT-F4 on the keyboard is faster). Repeat this a few dozen times and check your system resources. This affects both the classic and IE 4 webby desktop. Microsoft appears to have sabotaged their own operating system! This file (comctl32.dll 5.8x) is installed and required by many newer Windows 95 applications. As far as I can tell there is no newer version for Windows 95 that fixes the problem. Perhaps Microsoft did this to sell more copies of Windows 98? Luckily I don't have IE or any other programs that required that version of the DLL, but computers that have IE 5.x or various other programs must have the 5.x version. Just by chance I came across an early version of the comctl32.dll file, version 5.00.0910.1306 to be exact, which shipped with an early beta version of IE 5. This version does not have this "bug"! (I suppose it could have others, but I have not encountered any). If you are affected and want to make your Windows 95 machine stable again, download file below. Extract it, exit to DOS, rename the old file, and copy the new comctl32.dll. (Example, "rename c:\windows\system\comctl32.dll comctl32.old" and then "copy c:\temp\comctl32.dll c:\windows\system\comctl32.dll") Disclaimer: Try this at your own risk.
