Descent 2 - The Vertigo Series 1.2

BIN/CUE image of Descent II: The Infinite Abyss/Vertigo Series CD-ROM. This expansion CD is quite rare, so I have provided it here for preservation purposes. The add-on contains 23 new levels, new multiplayer missions, new robots and new bosses for Descent II. This requires an installation of the full version of Descent II for MS-DOS (you can find a CD-ROM on eBay, or you can purchase the game from GOG for $5). For modern systems, you will need to use DOSBox to run the Vertigo setup program and install to your Descent II directory (thus you will need to set your MOUNT lines in DOSBOx config, do an IMGMOUNT, etc for those familiar with DOSBox--if you are not familiar with DOSBox, there are plenty of tutorials out there. It is not as complicated as it seems). For real Win95/98 systems, if you know MS-DOS, this should be easy. Note that this also comes with a very comprehensive level editor called "Descent Mission Builder II," which was later patched to 2.6, and that patch is included here. DMBII is a fantastic level editor, and I remember building dozens of my own custom multiplayer levels with it. It also lets you edit robot AI, robot weapons, etc (a spider 'bot with a rapid firing fusion cannon? Yep, that is possible. Want to smack that first boss in Descent 1, level 7 with a Descent II 'Earthshaker' missile? No problem). Descent II is also patched to version 1.2, with the installation of this add-on. To the best of my knowledge, at the time of this post (May 2018), the GOG version does NOT include the Vertigo Mission Series, so it is provided here for your enjoyment. Good hunting.

Destruction Derby

You probably feel like a crash test dummy when you're playing this game - it's not only a racing game, but you get points for wrecking your enemies! The amount of points you get depends on how you hit them ... e.g. you get more points for getting them do a 360 other than driving into theirs sides at high speed. The game has more to offer: a head to head mode with only two cars or the legendary destruction derby itself - a huge arena, every car starts at the edge of it, and then - have a nice crash!

Detroit Auto Factory 1.0

WELCOME TO DETROIT! ------------------------------------- OBJECTIVES DETROIT begins in the year 1908. The streets of the world are filled with horse-drawn carriages and wagons, and no one has even heard of gas stations -- or auto mechanics' bills. You're going to change all that. You are a bright young entrepreneur with a dream: to use the new technology of the assembly line to bring the automobile to the average man, and thereby to build a company that will last a hundred years and reach every corner of the globe. You start with a single factory, one sales office, $60,000 in capital funds, and the design for a prototype car. From that foundation, you will guide your company's expansion, while constantly working to stay ahead of your competitors by creating better and better cars for your factories to produce. You'll make marketing decisions, hire and fire your employees, build and modernize your factories, invest in research to stay on the cutting edge of automobile technology, and incorporate that technology into successful designs for new cars. Your goal is to see to it that your company survives to the year 2008, and, in the process, becomes the most successful automobile manufacturer in the world. Happy Motoring!

DinoPark Tycoon

This is not your ordinary amusement park but a dinosaur park. You start off with $5000 which is borrowed from the bank. The game doesn't just limit itself to buying a few dinosaurs, but also having to buy land (there are three types of land on wich you can build your park), fence it properly (there is even an option to buy electrical fences) and hire maintenance men since you don't want your dinos to escape. You also have to buy food for your over-sized attractions. There are dinosaurs that eat only meat, and there are others who eat only vegetables. Luckily the game comes with an encyclopaedia of all the dinosaurs available, which comes in pretty handy. Your task will be to buy dinosaurs and facilities, maintain them properly, and keep the visitors entertained for the cheapest possible entrance price.

DiscWorld 1.0

First adventure made by Terry Pratchett famous "Disc World" novels. You are hapless wizard Rincewind that failed even first year of learning. But it's only you who can prevent total destruction of capital city of Ankh-Morpork by fearsome dragon. Game loosely based on novel "Guards! Guards!", but have story tuned here and there, as there is different protagonist now. Some cameos of different other Discworld novels here as well. It is point-n-click adventure with standard routine "combine everything with everything and search every pixel on screen". Floppy-version, without voices.

DiscWorld 2

Two of the most underrated adventure games ever, both Discworld games are based on Terry Pratchett's pun-filled fantasy Discworld series, in which the whole world is carried through space by a turtle, and idioms and puns do have a life of their own. As bumbling wizard Rincewind, prevent the Dragon from destroying the world in Discworld 1 and find a way to convince the disillusioned Death to resume his day job in the sequel. Both games have great humor (although dialogues drag on at times), and some of the most devious but logical puzzles ever designed. Famed Monty Python veteran Eric Idle's performance as the voice of Rincewind is flawless, althought some dialogues are very long-winded to the point of frustrating. Clever puzzles and hilarious animations, however, more than make up for it.

Discworld Noir + patch

Discworld Noir is the third and last PC game based on Terry Pratchett's popular fantasy universe. It is also my most favorite, even though Rincewind (the hero from the other two games) is nowhere to be found, and light-hearted humor has been replaced by forboding atmosphere and shady characters. The one thing that Discworld Noir has in common with its predecessors, though, is the sharp British wit... and droning dialogues that seem to take forever.

Donald Duck - Qu@ck Att@ck ! Demo

The individual levels alternatively vary between 2D and 3D worlds. The story mainly revolves around Donald having to protect his beloved Daisy from quests and evil wizards. "Donald Duck - Qu @ ck Att @ ck ?!" should be very reminiscent of "Crash Bandicoot" by its very nature and be quite easy to play. One criticism is that it is only suitable for the younger generation, where I can only say: who decides when I'm too old to play something? I decide for myself and since I like platform'n'runs in general, I will not come around to try it out here. The player is sent on his journey through 24 levels (which should all be over very quickly) and 4 spaces. These rooms have different themes: the forest, the city, a haunted house and an ancient Egyptian / Aztec temple. Through these rooms and levels, Donald has to deal with the strangest enemies and bosses; well-known as the Panzerknacker, but also completely new and unknown opponents lurk in the game world of Qu @ ck Att @ ck. So all in all, Qu @ ck Att @ ck is a jump'n'run game, like so many others: Run around, collect coins, defeat a few enemies before you get to the boss, and you have a certain amount of life. Everything there that makes a jump'n'run fan heart beat faster. Consequently, my! ❤ It looks nicely done with this mix of 2D and 3D worlds, as well as the Donald is pretty cute. When was it easier to be so close to his chaotic Entenhausener favorite hero and to share adventures with him? And although the game has a few years on its back, it makes a pretty solid, amusing and entertaining impression, according to the trailer and gameplay. For my part, I'll definitely play it all down and do a let's test on it. Until then!! ❤

DOOM 0.3 pre-alpha

This is the long-rumored v0.3 alpha, built by id Software on February 28, 1993, almost one month later than the v0.2 tech demo and 2 months earlier than the much further progressed v0.4. Notable features include several maps in their earliest known forms and a fully functional on-screen automap. Though apparently never released to id's alpha testers, this build was sent to several industry professionals for comment and review, whereby it has been successfully preserved. It much more fully displays the DOOM engine in its earliest state than the tech demo, with an internal architecture significantly different and less advanced than later builds. Crashes will be common, especially when walking over two-sided lines. The README file promises a more proper release to follow in two weeks, but such a release is not presently known to exist.
